Children are A Gift
I still remember the date. It was November 18, 2001. A date that would change my life forever. Me and my husband were anxiously awaiting our first ultrasound. I was certain it was a girl, while Justin was certain we were going to be having a little boy. As visions of tutus and pink ribbons danced through my head, neither of us were fully prepared for the first thing that popped out of the nurse's mouth. "You know that there are two in here, right?" she asked nonchalantly. Later that day, I was at work and got called up to the front desk. Still beaming from my exciting news, I graciously accepted the beautiful bouquet of gerber daisies my husband had sent me. My first instinct was to tell anyone and everyone who even showed the slightest interest in my bulge my exciting news. But as I looked up at the girl handing me my bouquet, I held back. She had spent thousands of dollars on unsuccessful fertility treatments. Her weight had suffered as well as her pocketbook. So I was forced to take my flowers in silence allowing her imagination to assume they were meant to celebrate a birthday or anniversary.
